Entamoeba histolytica
Entamoeba histolytica. Trophozoites
in fecal smear (trichrome stain, oil immersion). This cluster of trophozoites
was seen in a patient with amebic dysentery. In two of the organisms the typical
nuclear morphology is clearly evident, in a third organism the nucleus is slightly
out of focus, and in the fourth the nucleus is not in the plane of focus. A
single red blood cell is seen within the cytoplasm of two of the amebae.
