Coccidians
Cyclospora cayetanensis. Oocysts
in fecal smear (ultraviolet epifluorescence, high power). in a methanol-fixed
fecal smear examined under ultraviolet epifluorescence, the oocysts of Cyclospora
stand out as bright blue circles. The red-staining bodies are yeasts and bacteria.
Cryptosporidium parvum does not stain with this procedure, which is advantageous
in screening fecal specimens for Cyclospora infection.
