South Pacific Overview

Individually and in teams, students develop "integrated histories" of an issue or problem. These "histories" require building an integrated context pertaining to sustainability by examining issues through the perspectives and methods of knowing in the social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities.

Organized in interdisciplinary ways and problem-based, all courses stress engaged, active learning. Students are expected to formulate their own interpretations and responses to the issues. Consequently, success in the courses relies heavily on critical, creative, systematic, and collaborative thinking. The sophisticated use of communication, information, and technological skills are also a component of these courses. Students will present their findings on the Pacific Expedition website.
