    | Service-learning is an educational experience designed to encourage civic responsibility and to meet mutually identified community and university needs. Whether integrated into the curriculum or accomplished through independent projects, service-learning is an experiential and reflective activity that increases knowledge and skills and contributes to personal and career growth. |

Summer 2013
Students in Colloquium are required to complete 10 hours of Service-learning (S.L.) related to the environment.  I have prepared the following opportunities to meet that requirement in this class by providing several 5-hour intervals of S.L. for the class.  I expect each student to attend at least one of these group opportunities, preferably all 10 hours.  If your schedule does not allow this, then you need to meet with me to make arrangements right away.  We will select the dates at the first day of class.
In consideration of the summer heat and humidity, all group opportunities will begin and 8AM and go until 1PM.  My prior experience has been that Friday and Saturday morning are the most reasonable days for these group events to occur.  That is open for discussion.
Water and treats will be provided.   Students should bring a lunch (sandwich), and any other drinks desired.  We will provide a cooler to keep it until lunch.  Lunch time is included in the 5-hour session and will continue with the learning of the S.L. requirement.
