Group Member Reflections on Project

Ashley-  "This group project initially seemed as though it would be a piece of cake, however I quickly learned that this would not be the case. Out of the five members we had in our group, only three of us actually contributed to the project’s final organization and outcome. It is very difficult to collaborate as a group on a normal basis, but when you throw two members into the mix that just plain and simply don’t care about contributing makes things very difficult and make it almost impossible to be successful. I also found that communication amongst our group became very difficult as well. While I am happy about our final outcome, I think that, with the extra help of our two absentee members, our project could have been that much better. I feel that my two group members and I did a great job fulfilling our obligations to the project and working with them turned out to be a great success. I feel as though I have definitely learned a lot about Florida Gulf Coast University in terms of growth and expansion issues and I look forward to learning even more as our campus continues to grow in the future."

Noel-  "I originally thought the research and time I would need to put into this project would be much less than what was actually required.  Doing research turned out to be quite difficult as I realized I really needed to dig in order to find the information I needed.  The campus website was not very helpful and I found it very difficult to actually access the information I desired about the budget and how money gets distributed.  I was very relieved that I started my research well in advance of when the project was actually due; this definitely eased my stress level when it neared time to present.  I found it to be more difficult to work in a group than I had hoped.  Communication was lacking between most people and it seemed like some members really had to cover others' slack.  It also didn't help that some group members waited until past our established due dates to actually get information to the collaborators and often submitted information that was on a different topic than what they had originally chosen.  On a more positive note, I was very happy to learn a lot about the parking situation, as it was a topic I really cared about.  It was interesting to find out where our money is actually going and learn a bit more about the politics behind budget processing."

Gabe- "I feel that this project has helped me to realize that there is a long process you have to go through in order to plan a school, and you have to know what you are going to do when you run into a problem. As a student it is still hard to see why students are being punished for the school not having enough parking. Also I feel that parking tickets cost way too much and prices need to come down to five or ten dollars, because they give out more than enough tickets to make money. Although I’m not going to be at Florida Gulf Coast University for too much longer I feel that it was still very important for me to know how they plan on building the University to make it grow. As we all know class sizes are going to grow so now they will have to build more classes in order to keep the class sizes down. As more people continue to come to FGCU parking is always going to be a problem they will just have to make another parking garage, maybe one on campus for the students. After doing this project I have enjoyed seeing the information about how the campus is going to progress in the future. Most people can careless about how there University is going to grow in the future, but I think it is really important now that people know exactly what they have to look forward to."
