Parking Solutions
To better serve those who use FGCUs parking lots on a day-to-day basis, Parking Services has created specific rules for parking usage related to events on campus.
With current enrollment, parking availability on the Florida Gulf Coast University Campus has become inadequate, and parking availability will increasingly become a challenge due to future enrollment and other growth needs. The current campus master plan projects the need to construct parking facilities in order to accommodate the needs of a growing campus with limited available land.
FGCU Transportation
University Shuttle Information:
The University Shuttle starts at 7:15am and ends at 9:30 Monday thru Friday. Shuttles run continuously every 15 minuets from McTarnaghan Hall.
Route 1: McTarnaghan Hall to Laundry Building 1-2-3-4 through North Lake Village.
Route 2: McTarnaghan Hall to the Arts Complex and Parking Lots #7 and #2.
As a growing University we should have two buses that can fit up to fifty people that stops at Coastal Village and College Club every hour. This will help with parking situations. Other transportations being provided are sidewalks and also bridges that are being built in order to make the walk a quicker walk.
Students
With all the parking issues on camps there are several of things you can do as a University. They can clear out some of that area that they are building more houses and make one of them a parking lot for the students. There could be several of places where they could build a big parking lot. One spot is by the four way stop sign, there is more than enough land to build a parking lot to where people dont have to walk too far to there houses. Another option is to say that freshman are not allowed to have a car on camps, but if this happens then they need to have buses running all the time.

Other possible solutions to Parking Issues at FGCU
The following are examples of suggestions given by FGCU administration in order to ease the current parking situation:
*** The university is currently building a parking garage on campus to accommodate more commuter students at FGCU (still not available, anticipated opening December 31, 2006)***
Encourage carpooling though articles in the Eagle News
Suggesting students/faculty park in remote locations (such as Auxiliary lot) and ride campus shuttles to the main campus
Other suggestions that we believe could be made by FGCU
Using public transportation. Bus rides from locations like Coastal Village are fairy short and inexpensive. Fares are $1/ride or $30/month if purchased in advance
Another new campus, Florida International University also has limited parking. FIU implemented guaranteed reserved parking spaces, special parking areas, and other incentives for students and faculty who carpool in order to cut down on traffic
Small car emphasis could also be made. FGCU could create numerous compact car spots to reduce the size of parking areas and encourage small car use. Smaller stalls, lanes, and parking areas can accommodate up to 20-30% more cars than the current parking facilities
Provide incentives for students who use alternate modes of transportation (such as scholarships/tuition breaks or discounts to campus venues)
Many students residing close to campus well within walking/skating/biking distance
FIU added routes to surrounding biked paths which lead into the campus. FGCU could work with the county to make more accessible bike paths surrounding campus
Ben Hill Griffin Pkwy. has highly accessible bike lanes and paved sidewalks on both sides of road making biking easy and convenient from College Club Apartments, Grandezza, Miromar, and Stoneybrook
