Week of May 15th

Good morning! Well, we are well onto our third week of this course. It appears everyone is doing well. I have received most of the assignments for module #2 and the webboard looks good. I really did enjoy reading the discussion for last week. I will be posting my own comments on the topic as well as summarizing the postings. I also will be grading the assignments today and will get those back to you as soon as possible. Remember on the webboard and on the module assignments, there is the possibility for extra credit points. Most semesters, this extra credit becomes very valuable to students in calculating their final grades. So, be sure to do all of them and complete them on time. Extra credit will represent some additional effort that is seen in your work. I will be sending everyone their grades back for module #2 for both webboards and module assignments, so that you can see how I grade. Starting with module #3 you will only hear back from me on the webboard when points are deducted, you will always receive your assignments back. This week we begin an introduction to some basic tenets of HSA which include financing, regulation and provision of care. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Week of May 22nd

Good morning everyone! Sorry about the late feedback this week. I hope everyone had a nice and safe holiday. I had a relaxing Memorial day weekend and then drove to Tampa yesterday. So, I'm just starting to work on the webboard and the assignments for module #3 today. I have received all the assignments, I just want to remind everyone to turn them in on time. It really is an easy way to collect points by simply completing the assignment on time. The points can add up and be a safety net for you at the end of the course.

This week we are beginning to focus on the healthcare workforce, starting with the healthcare administrator. I think you will find this module interesting, especially for those who are planning to enter the field. Don't forget there is an exam in two weeks and I have already posted a conference if you have questions. I will also link the exam review sometime soon as well. Have a good week and we'll talk soon!

Week of May 29th

Good morning! Welcome to week #5, this week we continue with the healthcare workforce and look into more healthcare professions. Not only will we discuss background education and licensure, but also trends and issues facing their professions.

Next week will be your midterm exam, I will be posting a review soon on the website. This will be only a compilation of the module objectives. I haven't created the exam yet, but I imagine it will be a variety of multiple choice, short answer and essay. There is a conference posted on the webboard for questions, so please post your questions there if you have any so the whole class can see them.

I have received the assignments for week 4 and I will be grading them and getting them back to you quickly. I'll also be posting on the webboard this morning, so please stop by and check it out. Have a great week and we'll be talking soon!

Week of June 5th

Good morning! It's the week of our first exam. Congrats, you are halfway through summer session c. The exam is up and ready, please remember it is due on Friday by 5pm. I will be out of town Friday until Monday, but I will have my laptop with me answering e-mail. I'll get those graded as soon as possible and back to you. I still have a conference posted on the webboard for questions regarding the exam. I'll be checking that during the week as well if anyone has any questions.

I have received all the journal assignments for last week and will be grading those today. I appreciate everyone's timeliness on getting those in on time. The webboard looks great this week too, I really enjoyed the discussion and hope everyone learned something. I could tell there were some people really excited about the topic last week.

Good luck on your exam this week and I'll be talking to you soon!

Week of June 12th

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend and a happy Father's day! Now back to the 'ol grindstone! I do want to let you know that I have received all the exams and will be grading today, so expect those soon. I appreciate everyone's timeliness and am sure the grades will be excellent.

This week begins a new module dealing with health analysis. I think most of you will find this interesting as well as the other topics in this module. The assignment is short this week and the webboard should be easy as well. So relax, recover from your exam. You are halfway done and only 6 more weeks left!

Have a great day and by the way, New Orleans was great!

Week of June 19th

Good morning everyone! Sorry this is a day late, I had class yesterday rather than today. I just got finished grading all the assignments, so you should have them back by now. They looked terrific. I really appreciate all of you who put forth extra effort to do interviews and look up some information on the Internet. My webboard comments will be up this afternoon as well.

This week our module will focus on comparative health policy. These are methods used to evaluate other countries' health care systems in efforts to improve ours. I think many of you will find it very interesting! Good luck and 5 more weeks left. Have a great week.

Week of June 26th

Good morning! I hope everyone is having a nice day before the 4th! Be safe tomorrow and be careful with those fireworks. Remember, no fireworks on the beach this year. In the spirit of the season, I would like to recommend "The Patriot". I saw it on Friday and it is excellent!

I will be grading assignment #8 today, please check for your graded copy via e-mail. I will also be responding on the webboard today as well, summarizing our viewpoints on healthcare rationing. I'm glad most of you found the topic interesting, I think we will be seeing more and more of this topic as HMO's continue to try to save money. If you haven't noticed yet, I have completed all the modules for the rest of the course. Feel free to work ahead if you want. I will not post the exam early, so you will have to wait for that. But, the review for the final is already up.

That's all for now, talk to you soon and again..... have a safe and happy 4th.

Week of July 3rd

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a good weekend. I just completed grading all the assignments turned in for module #9 as well as the webboard. You should have received your grades via e-mail. We are definitely nearing the finish line! This week we begin our final section on "health administration skills". These are topic areas that an administrator in healthcare today must be an expert on, decision making and coordination. I'm sure that you will find them interesting as well as informative. I do want to encourage some of you to hang in there. I see a little slippage in the quality of webboards and assignments in this last module. Try to put forth one last effort for these two modules and then there will be a nice break before the fall semester starts. Hang tough and good luck!

Week of July 10th

Hello again! I hope everyone had a great weekend and is looking forward to your last module. I have received most of the journal club assignments and I will be grading them this afternoon. I will also be reviewing the webboard today. Many of you have asked for a look at your grade. I will be calculating how everyone stands after I grade last week's assignment and I'll try to get those out this afternoon. You have one more assignment and webboard this week and then a final exam next week. Please let me know if you have any questions on the final. I have posted the review and there is a conference available on the webboard if you have any questions or concerns. The exam will be posted on Monday, but if I get done early it may be up earlier. Keep checking if you want to get a head start!

Today we begin our final module of HSA skills entitled "Healthcare Coordination". This is an essential skill that may be new to you in formal terms although you most likely do this skill everyday, especially those of you juggling work, school, and families! Have a great week and I'll talk to you soon.

Week of July 17th

Good morning and welcome to your last module! The exam is posted and will be due by this Friday (7/28/00) at 9am. I will be grading and getting final grades out as soon as possible. I will be checking the webboard for any questions or concerns regarding the exam. Good luck and keep in touch!
