TOPICS FOR MODULE 10

Principles of Health Services Administration

Collective decision making is the device used by most governing boards in making decisions. Page 72 in text in "The Dynamic World of Healthcare" outlines this procedure. Read the article and then answer the following questions:

  1. What are the main characteristics of collective decision making?
  2. What do you see as the advantages and disadvantages to collective decision making in healthcare?
  3. Do you feel that quantitative decision making tools would be beneficial in this type of decision making? Why/Why not?
  4. How would the decision making process (Figure 3-1, page 74) adjust in a collective decision making environment?

Once you have gathered your thoughts, please post your response on the bulletin board prior to 5pm on Friday, July 14th. Also, you are responsible for responding to the postings of other students. All students must participate in the student webboard discussion for the week before the deadline to receive credit for participation. This will make it necessary for you to visit the bulletin board several times during the course of the week. Your participation grade will depend on the quality of your initial responses as well as your interaction and responses to the postings made by other students. Remember there is opportunity for extra credit points, but you must not only answer the topic questions, but provide added insight based on additional review of topic.
