EDF 6215: Question and Answer Page

Question: We are only required to complete homework for 9 of the 11 on-line modules. Must we participate in the on-line discussion for those modules we choose to skip?

Answer: If you found information stating that you only are required to complete some of the homework, then you have accidentally been linked to an ald version of the course.  Homework assignments have been substantially altered this semester, and you must complete all assignments. You are expected to complete all homework as noted on the homepage.

Question: What is the "Research Discussion Conference" that is set up on the WebBoard?

Answer: In addition to the discipline specific discussion, a conference has been set up to discuss the research paper.  Students may use this conference area to ask questions (among themselves), share resources, complain or brag, or post components of the research they are completing.

Question: When I access my grade, it says "Intermediate Basket Weaving," where is my grade?

Answer: This is an unfortunate problem I have been unable to resolve. In fact, the grades that are listed will be accurate grades for you. However, the template I used is JavaScript, and I "took" it from another site.  Every time I try to fix it, I only succeed in crashing the system. So, the grade is accurate, although the course title is not.  If the summer goes really well, we will change this over to an ASP page fronting anpother database/spreadsheet and the problem will go away.

Question: Can I work with another student on class assignments?

Answer: Yes. In fact, I encourage students to work together. Many theories of learning acknowledge the benefit of shared thought.  However, every student is expected to turn in their own work.  If you want to work together, my suggestion is to form a study group (dyad, triad, etc.) to discuss and brainstorm assignments.  When it is time to commit pen to paper (or fingers to keyboards) then each individual is on their own.  I  certainly think it beneficial toshare your written work with others to receive feedback and editing assitance prior to submitting work.  The key is that each submitted assignment should be reflective of the knowledge and contributions of the individual whose name is on the work.
