EDF 5135: Adolescence

PowerPoint Presentations

The purpose of this page is to provide students with a quick overview of what others have been doing during the semester in terms of independent research. In many classes, this is achieved by having students present their work at the close of the term. However, increasingly, information is presented over the Internet. Thus, in this course the Internet is used in place of the in-class presentation.

It is my hope that as you review the work of your peers, you will consider 3 things:

1) What is the important learning to be gained from this work?

2) What elements of the PowerPoint presentation work well on the Internet, and which components need to be modified since this medium is stand-alone and the reader does not have the benefit of a lecturer filling in the details?

3) How can a simple PowerPoint presentation be effectively used to deliver information to parents, teachers, or other individuals with whom I work on a professional level?

Please note: PowerPoint presentations that originally contained animation are presented here without animation. To maintain animation on the Internet, the user must download a plug-in for their browser. As many students are new users, I chose not to require this additional feature in this course. Also, these presentations will appear as a fairly small "gif" picture, and in some cases may be difficult to read. I chose to save these in this small format, because it makes downloading the presentation over a slow modem much more convenient. However, as with all things, there is a cost. In this case, the cost is that some presentations will be very difficult to read. One option you have is to download the entire presentation source, then open the presentation in on your own computer in PowerPoint. Frankly, this will provide you with the best viewing experience. However, since some people do not have PowerPoint, viewing files on the web is a reasonable alternative. Another alternative is to view the "Text-Only" version of the presentation. To view the text-only version, after you have started the presentation, simply click on the gray button with a capital "A" on it. This button is located above the PowerPoint slide, in the right-hand corner of the screen.
