Today, Betty Simpson is a realtor working on Fort Myers Beach. She recently served on the Arnold committee that helped determine the location of Florida Gulf Coast University. When asked about her personal thoughts about the planned Estuaries development, she replied:

"looking back now, you probably wouldn't want a development like that, but at the time… it was a dream that he had."

Betty Simpson feels that if the land would have been developed, Robert Troutman's plan would have been better for the environment than if the land were sold and developed "piece meal."
