Life After High School:  

12th Graders

As a parent, I can:  

·         Review my child’s program of study and career path choices

·         Ensure that my child has fulfilled all graduation requirements

·         Speak regularly with my child’s counselor to outline options

·         Review my child’s plans for post-secondary education, making linkages as needed

·         Encourage my child to take responsibility to deal with people

·         Communicate freely with my child’s school – work to ensure success

·         Practice interviewing skills with my child

·         Research and share budgeting techniques

·         Ensure that the application, form, and letters have been supplies

·         Develop a financial plan that will facilitate my child’s college or career goals

·         Build my child’s self-confidence

 

 

As a student, I can:

·         Meet with my counselor to make sure I am on schedule to graduate

·         Pay my school and graduation fees

·         Work closely with my transition team to achieve my goals

·         Keep my portfolio up to date with all forms or reports needed after graduation

·         Update my resume

·         Meet with my Vocational Rehabilitation counselor as part of the transition process

·         Place my name on waiting lists for any training programs I would like to pursue

·         Practice interview skills and ask for help

·         Continue to attend college nights and job fairs

·         Attend financial support workshops

·         Visit as many college, vocational or technical schools as possible

·         Apply for financial aid at the schools I choose as soon as possible

·         Work with my counselor on scholarships I may qualify for

·         Determine my desired job and obtain paid employment

·         Work and participate in post-secondary co-op program at a technical center
