Life After High School:  

10th Graders

 

As a parent, I can:

 

·         Involve my child in family decision making, discussion the pros and cons of each

·         Encourage my child to be involved with school activities

·        Review this year’s attendance and tardy goals

·        Give my child responsibilities at home

·        Encourage my child to explore and ask questions about work

·        Pass on my skill and abilities through home projects

·        Encourage my child to engage in problem solving activities

·        Use travel and vacation time as a way to increase my child’s career awareness

·        Encourage my child to interview several people of different careers

·        Have my child visit my work

·        Emphasize how home responsibilities relate to those of work

 

 

As a student, I can:

 

·         Make up any classes I haven’t passed from 9th grade

·         Take and pass my required 10th grade classes

·         Take electives that interest me

·         Continue discussing progress with teachers

·         Keep my portfolio up to date

·         Practice informed decision making skills

·         Acquire identification card

·         Begin learning skills necessary for independent living

·         Practice god personal health care

·         Learn appropriate interpersonal communication and social skills in different settings

·         Begin a resume

·         Organize my transition team if I have not already

·         Begin visiting my counselor and college/career center for college catalogs and employment material

·         Explore post-secondary options outside the classroom

·         Find a summer job

·         Attend summer school to repeat a class or for enrichment classes
