MEMORY
Short-term Memory
– requires recall immediately after learning. Long-term Memory – the
ability to recall information after several seconds or minutes. Visual Memory – The
ability to remember what was seen. Your
child may have difficulty with reading comprehension and math equations. Auditory Memory – The
ability to remember information which was given verbally.
Your child may have difficulty following directions or remembering
information from a story read aloud. Usually tested by having student repeat a
list of numbers. Strategies – Provide
written instructions as reinforcement to oral directions, allow visual aids, use
color coding. Assessments – Memory is
generally tested as part of the IQ test. Subtests
of the following assessments test visual and/or auditory memory:
Kauffman Assessment Battery for Children, Wechsler Intelligence Scale for
Children – Third Edition (WISC_III), Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale,
Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery-Revised, Illinois Test of
Psycholinguistic Abilities, Detroit Test of Learning Aptitude-e |
