Life After High School:  

In order to prepare your child for the world of work, a large amount of information needs to be gathered by teachers, counselors, vocational specialists, and parents.  Some of the tests are used for many kinds of data while others are used for specific information.

 

*Cumulative data – A review attendance records, test scores, grades, special performance tests of intellectual, academic, and behavioral areas is needed.

 

*Medical examination – Students should have a physical as a preliminary measure.

 

*Interviews:

Student – Student is asked about interests, leisure-time activities, type  of work done in the past, summer jobs, part-time work, and future goals.

Parent – Parent is asked about goals they have for the child and information child may have shared in regards to job preferences  and desires.

 Teacher – Teacher is asked to provide information about the cognitive and affective skills of the student such as work habits, attention span, and task completion.

*Interest inventories –  Provide information about the occupational and professional choices the student can make.

*Vocational aptitude / ability testing – These can test the students basic abilities in various types of jobs.

*Career maturity ratings-The attitudes, values, temperaments, and other personality factors can be determined from this test.

*Job readiness – This tests the ability to do such things as interviewing, punctuality, and the response to supervision.

*Job analysis – This will test skills needed for a specific job.

B.     Motor dexterity – use of fingers

C.    Perceptual – color discrimination

D.    Academic – computational skills

E.     Familiarity with tools and equipment

F.     Affective – social skills, how one speaks and interacts with others

*Commercial work sample systems – This work sample system  allows a student to be tested on actual jobs, or portions of a job, to be performed.

*Self-developed work samples and simulations – Simulation is used to test for work tasks. Students get actual hands on training.

*Behavioral analysis – The student’s actual job performance is tested.

*Situational assessment – The student is supervised  while training or actually of the job.
