Plasmodium ovale

Plasmodium ovale. Thin blood film (Giemsa's stain, oil immersion). Two schizonts, one immature and the other mature, are seen here. A mature schizont of this species typically contains eight merozoites. The red cells are enlarged, elongate, and stippled. Pigment grains are prominent in the cytoplasm of the parasites.
