Plasmodium malariae
Plasmodium malariae. Thin blood
film (Giemsa's stain, oil immersion). Mature male and female gametocytes. The
diffuse chromatin of the microgametocyte (male) is purplish-red, compared with
the compact chromatin mass of the macrogametocyte. Brown pigment grains are
scattered throughout the cytoplasm of the parasites.
