Loa loa

Loa loa. Microfilaria in thin blood film (Giemsa's stain, high power). The sheath of the microfilaria does not stain with Giemsa's stain. However, its presence is marked by a clear, halolike area around the body of the microfilaria in thick blood films or by an outline of red blood cells lying adjacent to it in thin films. The short cephalic space, nerve ring, and other anatomic landmarks are usually evident.
