Practice

Practice Overview:

Practice will focus on cultural diverse populations within rural environments. We view the world through individually constructed and societal imposed "cultural lenses." Becoming more aware of the presence and impact of these cultural lenses is the first step toward successful interaction with people whose lenses are different from our own. As you work with clients from diverse cultures you will gain a greater understanding of the origins of their folk medicine, health beliefs, and healing practice. Incorporating this knowledge you will be able to develop the cultural competence crucial for effective and culturally safe nursing practice.

The content component of this course provides the foundation for your practice.  You are expected to demonstrate appropriate application of this material in the practice setting.
