Topics Session 5

Case Study #1
I believe that option 2 is the most appropriate for this scenario. Every culture has different beliefs and if Dr. Blank is not familiar with the morals, values and customs of the Dominican Republic than it is not her place to refuse or question her pts. beliefs. If it is not possible to retrieve the tooth this option offers the consolation of accommodating her in the future.

Case Study #2
For this case I think option two is a good suggestion. Mr. Park is probably showing his respect for authority and Ms. King should recognize this and not push him. Whether or not he is avoiding the possibility that someone would think he is making sexual advances, I do not know but the advise that follows the reasoning is a good suggestion.

Case Study #3
I was not sure of the correct answer to this case. I do not know enough about political refugees to rule out option 1 and didn’t see anything about it in our readings, although I may have missed it. I ruled out Option 2 because the case study did not give us enough information to make that assumption. For option 3 I consulted my Pocket Guide to Cultural Assessment and noted that the Haitian culture’s dominance patters provide for a family with a mutual support system. For that reason I ruled out this option. For option 4 I also consulted the same book. According to the author, traditional medicine is not as valued as voodoo is so they may not have agreed with the physician, however, they did accept the prescription so I ruled this option out. The only option I have left is Option 1 and I do not have enough information to rule this option out so that is the one I will have to go with even though I do not feel srtongly about this answer.
