: : : Now it's your time to vent. As a health care consumer yourself, were you ever treated unprofessionally by another health care provider (who probably didn't know you were a health care provider)? And what was your worse patient like?

: : When my Dad was in the hospital in October, he was on alot of meds. The nurse told him not to get up to go to the bathroom because the medications were making him dizzy. He felt strongly that he had to stand up to go to the bathroom so he kept standing near the side of the bed and urinating in the bottle they gave him. Well I guess his monitors kept going off and the nurse got mad and put a foley on him against his wishes and without a doctors orders. His doctor was mad as was he. I guess it was mostly embarrassing for him. Is it within a nurses responsibility to cathetirize a pt against his will?

: No, nurses cannot perform invasive procedures without
: orders unless it is life or death and then we protocols
: to cover us. However, a foley cath is not life or death

WE ALL HAVE HAD EXPERIENCES WITH DIFFICULT PATIENTS, AND IT IS THE WAY YOU TREAT THE SITUATION THAT CAN BE EITHER A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE OR A LEARNING ONE FOR ALL
