: : : : Since you are all health care information consumers yourself, how do you usually find out about health care information you need to know. What do you think about the different information modes of receiving health care consumer information? What's your favorite and least favorite methods?

: : : My favorite method of receiving healh care information is by word of mouth. I like to hear of other peoples experiences beforeI try something myself. While this method may not be the most accurate way to get information, I take that into consideration. Currently I am looking for a nursing home for my Grandmother and I value the judgement of other nurses that I associate with. I also respect their opinions of various medical procedures my father may be considering.

: : This is not a criticism of what you have said, but I would like you to consider that misinformation can be given as the "gospel" and before you know it the miss information is believed as the truth and the correct information is never accepted as the truth.

: Jonathan, I whole heartedly agree with that but sometimes I don't know what to believe. For example, my father is a CHF pt with 95% blockage in his carotid artery and a 12% ejection fraction. He was hospitalized over Christmas with superventricular tachycardia. He read a book on Chelation Therapy which was very much in favor of this procedure. Everyone I have talked to is against it. Who is correct? The printed book -or- the doctors, nurses and students that have advised us otherwise?

That is a good question. Ther are some information that can't be gotten without controversy. Then the decision lies with the consumer. Not an easy answer is it. Usually, it really isn't that simple.
