: : : : : Using the four prototypes of patient/health care provider relationships, describe some real life examples of each. These examples can come from your own work experience or if you or someone in your family was a patient. What type of relationship did you or your family member have with the health care provider?

: : : : Paternalism- I see that in my parents, they feel uncomfortable asking questions sometimes. They are getting better though because it helps them when they can relay the information to me. They live out of state. I see myself in the consumerism and mutuality prototypes. I ask questions and get cooperation from my providers since they know I have been in the medical field for years. Default- I see that often in our "freuent flyers" in the cath lab. They keep returning for treatment but don't wish to comply with whats recommended in their treatment.

: : : Don't you hate the Defaults. They are usually the hardest patients to deal with. You sometimes want to shake them and convinced them of their errors.

: : My parents are the paternalism prototype they turn to me
: : for advice on what to do. I have a difficult time dealing with the default types
: : they are exhausting, nothing ever gets through.

I agree I would rather answer qustions all day and know
that they are getting the information, instead of those
who have total faith in the provider or those who don't believe
anything we tell them.
: You are absolutely correct. Nothing gets through. The best type of patient in my opinion is the consumerist. That may ask alot of questions, but usually they are appropriate questions.
