1. Paternalism the typical senior citizen or elderly person would fall under this prototype. This generation has more respect for the M.D. and places all of their faith and trust in him. They take what the physician tells them in full faith and do not question him.
Consumerism this type of prototype fits those patients seeking care through an HMO instead of traditional insurance. The HMO stresses preventative care before curative services become necessary.
Mutuality this type of patient is one who needs to be an active participant in his health care. He is an informed client and recognizes the fact that he can be a significant contributor to decisions made regarding his care plan and his own well being.
Default This is the non-compliant patient. The health care provider may have attempted to educate and influence but has probably ceased due to lack of input or compliance on the clients part.
2. I believe that wellness/preventative information as well as disease management information are both in the best interest of the patient as far as health information goes. What I think causes more harm than good, sometimes, is listening to well meaning friends and families who may not be informed but always have an opinion.
3. I wish I had something to vent about but I dont. This is my first time in a nursing program and I have had very little direct contact with patients last semester. This is my first week of clinicals this semester and it was mainly orientation. Hopefully by the end of this semester I will be better able to answer this question.
