My only major illness was appendicitis at age 9. I experienced loss of appetite, nausea, left-sided abdominal pain and weight loss. I was misdiagnosed for 1 ½ months. We were told that it was not my appendix because the pain was on the wrong side. It was finally decided that it was my appendix and it was removed. However I had lost twenty pounds and missed several weeks of school. I was back to normal within six months.

The newest roles within nursing are that of an ARNP and the case manager. I believe these roles have increased due to the challenges of meeting the patients needs and outcomes within the financial constraints of the managed care environment.

Yes, I strongly believe that we need healthcare standards to maintain a level of competence by the practitioners.
