: I know of several patient care techs and many of them have been through formal training at a vo-tech program, keep up with competencies and have too be state certified. I think that would put them into a professional catagory although the standards for all techs are not hospital -wide yet.

I guess they have different levels of education depending on where you work and what field you are in. The PT techs that work with my sister have no formal education and some of the ones that I have been in school with got their jobs with no formal training either. I didn't know that there was a specific program to be a tech.
: : : : : : I believe that anyone who has a set of skills and strive to improve upon those skills are in many ways a professional. I know that there is controversy to call a Patient Care Technician a professional, but I feel that they have a set of skills that sets them apart from other people. In my mind, this makes them a professional.

: : : : It is difficult to separate people in the Health Care Field. In many ways, we have a lot of communality and still are separated. I think it is dangerous grounds to look down on others just because we think they may not be "a professional".

: : : According to many of my other classes, techs aree not considered professionals. As far as I have seen, they hve only on the job training. Aides at least have a little educational background although they are not considered professionals by many.

: : I understand what you are saying. Still, I have worked with these individuals and have a different view point of the matter.
