I know of several patient care techs and many of them have been through formal training at a vo-tech program, keep up with competencies and have too be state certified. I think that would put them into a professional catagory although the standards for all techs are not hospital -wide yet.

: : : : : I believe that anyone who has a set of skills and strive to improve upon those skills are in many ways a professional. I know that there is controversy to call a Patient Care Technician a professional, but I feel that they have a set of skills that sets them apart from other people. In my mind, this makes them a professional.

: : : : I like that Jonathan, hadn't thought of an aide or care technician either as or as not a professional. They have to work hard to keep their good skills up.

: : : It is difficult to separate people in the Health Care Field. In many ways, we have a lot of communality and still are separated. I think it is dangerous grounds to look down on others just because we think they may not be "a professional".

: : According to many of my other classes, techs aree not considered professionals. As far as I have seen, they hve only on the job training. Aides at least have a little educational background although they are not considered professionals by many.

: I understand what you are saying. Still, I have worked with these individuals and have a different view point of the matter.
