: If Mrs. Johnson saw from my tag that I was A student, I would simply explain to her that although I am able to do my job competently, if it sould make her more comfortable to have someone else take over, no problem.
: : What do you think would happen if the student was honest with the patient?
: : What would you do in this situation and why?
The student must be honest with this patient as well as all patients that she/he come into contact with.
If the student lacks the honesty, They need to find another career.
In my view, if the student sat and talked to the patient in a manner that she could understand and
comprehend, this should alleviate her concerns and fears.
The next part asks What would I do? From my own experience I would talk with her and be professional in all aspects of our discussion.
The healthcare professional first duty is to be honest with every patient. I also would give the pateint all of her options, and let make an
informed decision on what is best for her. And should she decide to not let me take care of her,
I must respect her decision and learn from this interaction.
