: : : : : We seem to have a tie between answers 2 & 3. After reading the comments I tend to lean that way too. Any reflections on how we sometimes take for granted patients will be more "comfortable" on a first name basis? Is this a change in society in general?

: : : : I think it depends on the age of the patient population you work with.
: : : : I know alot of my patients would be offend if you called them by their first
: : : : name. I think it is only okay to do that if they have given you permission to or if
: : : : family has told you that they respond better to their first name.

: : : According tomy cultural assessment book, physicians andnures are viewed a authority figures by Koreans, and are treated with great respect.

: : Is this book in the college bookstore. You have sparked my interest, it might be fun to read (and informational).

: I agree. I find this fascinating. I also agree that there was a valid reason for him not wanting to call the nurse by her first name. The nurse should have just accepted that and not spent some time of "worrying why?"

I agree with Jonathan. She should respect the pts wishes and not waste her time worrying.
