: : We seem to have a tie between answers 2 & 3. After reading the comments I tend to lean that way too. Any reflections on how we sometimes take for granted patients will be more "comfortable" on a first name basis? Is this a change in society in general?

: I think it depends on the age of the patient population you work with.
: I know alot of my patients would be offend if you called them by their first
: name. I think it is only okay to do that if they have given you permission to or if
: family has told you that they respond better to their first name.

A very "important" point. Especially if the patient is sedated or comatose or something. They say they respond to their first name more quickly and I think thats very true. If someone has arrested we always call to them by their first name to try to orient them faster.
