: PROBLEMS FACING HEALTH PRACTITIONERS

: 1. Physicians: reinbursement being dictated by the rules of the insurance co./HMOs. Many are feeling constrained in their practice of medicine by these rules.. ex. PSA, mammagrams ekgs to name some that most insurance companies will not cover for a yearly routine physical. Because of this the tests are not offered to the patient and often times the worst is discovered too late.

: 2. NP's, CNM's, PA's face conflicting rules and regulations on their prescribing meds., which I do think needs to be regulated but straight across the board in each state.

: They also have reimbusement problems especially with the self insured patient and medicaid pt. These services are not usually covered.

: 3. Nurses, allied health practitioners: cuts in staffing,

: mediocre wages, longer hours and more duties.

: 2. I think that multidisciplined interdisciplinary teams are the way of the future. That is to say that the disciplinary team members will have to be able to perform more than their own specialty, and be cross -trained for some duties in other areas.

: 3. I myself prefer to work in the above situation. I like not waiting for lab or respiratory when I'm in the ER so we can keep the patients moving. And if I'm busy, it's nice to be able to delegate to someone who is free and trained. That's what make a good team.

I currently am working in a hospital model, but may move to Ambulatory care in the future
