The Communication section is designed to facilitate
communication among students and instructors. A variety of
communication means such as asynchronous and synchronous can
be used to achieve this purpose.
Synchronous communication occurs in real time.
Synchronous communication allows for the spontaneous give
and take of normal conversation - as long as you're a fast
typist. Chat is an example of synchronous communication. You
can actually chat online with one or a group of people. Some
chat programs offer the function of saving chat sessions. If
you are not online during a chat session, you can't retrieve
the session and read postings in the session. Some programs,
however, do not offer that option. If you are not online
during a chat session, you can't chat and you miss the whole
session.
Asynchronous communication is more flexible because it
allows you to decide when and where to communicate. E-mail,
mailing lists/listservs, bulletin boards/message boards all
belong to asynchronous communication tools. If you're not
online when someone sends you e-mail or post a message on
the bulletin board, you can still retrieve and read the
message at a later time.
For this class, both asychronous and synchronous tools
are used to facilitate communication between students and
the instructor and among students.
The asychronous tools this class uses are email,
discussion bulletin
board, class
distribution list (or listserv).
The address for the class distribution list is
crn10251@eagle.fgcu.edu.

I come from a very large Italian family. My
husband of twenty- three years is Irish, Indian,
Scottish and English. As I am getting older; I am
becoming more curious about my European background.
I plan on visiting Europe in 2000. I have always
been curious about other cultures and do try to
glean knowledge form all my multi-cultural
experiences. To me culture is a changing thing, it
has to be, or there will be no growth.
I am hoping that my interest in anthropology
