The First Indian Baptist Church as Voluntary Association

By Alice Snow

First Indian Baptist Church at Brighton Reservation is in the Big Lake Association. There are only two Indian Churches in Big Lake Association, the other Indian Church is Big Cypress Reservation. We support the Association work and all mission work.

We are a volunteer church. We help the people in the community teach the Bible and Sunday School. We also have meetings at night. The Baptist Men and Woman Missionary Union meetings are on the same night, but we eat meals together and we have our meetings afterward. Also, we have Mission Friends and Girls in Action and Girls Auxiliaries and Young Baptist Women. We have Church officers. Every First Sunday, we have breakfast. Every fourth Sunday, we also have 4th Sunday dinner on the grounds and everybody is invited. Our volunteer projects include making quilts and making some skirts for elderly women of the community. Sometimes the elderly ask us to make quilts for them. We always help other churches in singing Indian songs.
