This course is intended for counseling
majors. The principles of group dynamics are presented, and their application
to the 4 basic group types studied. In addition to group dynamics, major
topics include the stages of groups, counseling theories applied to groups,
and therapeutic factors in counseling and therapy groups. The course is
divided into 3 major components. The first is a didactic and skills portion
were students create meaning of the current knowledge base. The second
is an experiential component wherein students participate as active members
in a counseling group. The third component is a field experience wherein
students co-facilitate a group with an experienced clinician in the field.
