Scoring Rubric for Mining Resources The resources available on the web site are the result of many hours of work, and are a valuable commodity to assist you in preparing your project. In addition to the FGCU library webpages and databases, use these resources to find data and information. This rubric demonstrates how I think you can best use these pages to meet that goal.
This assignment will take 2-3 hours, depending on your skills at assessing websites. Quickly survey the sites available in each category (government (.gov), organizations (.org), commercial news sources (.com) to see what information they have to help you learn about your issue. That is often facilitated by using the search key and also reading the "about us" section on their WebPages. Once you've got a better idea of which sites will be most useful, then provide the URL and write a sentence to say what material on that site will be valuable for your project. DO NOT CITE AN INDIVIDUAL ARTICLE or a database- this assignment asks you to evaluate a webSITE resource. Then when you've got all the sites reviewed, write an annotated summary that shows how you've got a balanced, up to date list of resources by briefly remarking on those aspects described below. |

Data Provided |
Sides of Issues |
Evaluation of Resource & Citation |
A |
Identifies at least 4 resources (provide the URL and a brief summary of the information available) from each of the categories on the resources pages( .com, .gov, .org). (Two wildcard sources from outside my pages can be substituted- look especially for .edu and other organizations) A total of 12 is expected. |
Each side of the issue is very well represented in the entire composite of the information mined. This means you have all sides from each resource category, and have found up-to date data showing all aspects when the entire collection is compiled. You have to address political, social, economic, and technological aspects well. |
Demonstrate very clear understanding of potential bias of resource including author background, and publisher, and provides a complete citation. |
B |
Provides at least 3 resources and brief summary of the information acquired from each of the categories on the resources pages. |
Each side of the issue is fairly-well represented in most of the composite of the data represented. This means you have all sides from the total resources and have data showing most aspects when the entire collection is compiled. |
Demonstrate good understanding of potential bias of resources and provides a complete citation |
C
|
Provides at least 2 resources and information acquired from each of the categories on the resources pages. |
Each side of the issue is represented in parts of composite of the data represented. This means you have many side from most resource categories, and have some data showing many aspects when the entire collection is compiled. You consider some, but not all of the political, social, economic, and moral aspects. |
Demonstrate some understanding of potential bias of resource and provides a nearly complete citation |
D |
Provides at least 1 resource and information acquired from two categories on the resources pages. |
Primarily one side of the issue is evident in the data mined. |
Demonstrate little or no understanding of potential bias of resource and the citation is incomplete |
